Our print of the Edmund Pettus Bridge honors Martin Luther King, Jr., John Lewis, and the other civil rights leaders who participated in the march for voting rights in 1965 in Alabama.
On March 7 of that year, a.k.a. "Bloody Sunday," approximately 600 people headed east on U.S. Route 80, and when they got to the bridge, they were attacked by law enforcement, and they were forced to retreat. Two days later, MLK Jr. led a symbolic march to the bridge, and later, court protection was requested in order for a third, full-scale march from Selma to the state's capitol in Montgomery.
